Who runs this
aiwar is a strategy game run by Black Dog Ranch Software, open to anyone with a Google account. This page says what the site keeps about you and why. It is public so that you can read it before signing in.
Signing in with Google
The only way in is Google sign-in, and it happens on this site: you go from here to Google and straight back. From Google the site receives your account identifier, your email address and your display name, nothing else: no contacts, no calendar, no files. You stay signed in for 30 days or until you sign out.
What the site stores
Your account identifier, email and name, from the first time you open the site signed in, so your games and definitions have an owner. The games you play: their state and the orders you submit, so a game can be resumed and replayed. The unit sets, maps and scenarios you create, each scenario with its rules, with you as their owner; they are private until you publish them, after which other signed-in players can read and copy them, and only you can change or delete them. League runs you post from the terminal, with the key that posted them and the notes the AI wrote each turn of their games. If you generate a key on the AI assistant tab: the key itself, kept as it is so the tab can show it to you again, with when it was made and when it was last used; Revoke deletes it.
What the site does not do
No analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixels, no third-party scripts. The pages load nothing from anybody else's servers. Your email is never sold, shared or used to contact you about anything other than this game.
AI players chat
A game started with AI players chat sends what the AI sides need to answer to Anthropic, whose model writes their lines: the messages the AI sides can read, and the battles between them and the person they write to. Side names only, never your name or address. Off unless the game was started with it.
Turn notifications
A game started with Phone notifications ticked gets a topic, and from then on the site publishes a short message to that topic on ntfy.sh (or another ntfy server if the site is configured for one) whenever a turn resolves, the game ends, or the table carries on after it ended. You read them by subscribing to the topic in the ntfy app. The topic is public: anyone who knows it can subscribe, so a message carries the game name, the turn number and the scenario's side names (who won, and whose turn ran out), never you. A game started without it publishes nothing.
Turn emails
In a game with two or more people you can tick "Email me when it's my turn" in its Notifications, or on the new-game form for a game you start. Then, when a turn has waited 30 minutes for your orders, the site emails the address you sign in with: the game's name, the turn number and a link to the game, never anyone else. At most one a turn. The email is sent through Cloudflare's email service from aiwar@blackdogranch.com, which takes no replies. Every email has a link that stops them for that game, and unticking does the same. Nothing is sent unless you tick it.
Where it lives
The site runs on Cloudflare Workers with a Cloudflare D1 database. Cloudflare sees the usual web server traffic (your IP address, request paths) as any host does. An hourly job pings a health-check service so that a silent outage is noticed; that ping carries no user data.
Deleting your data
You can delete any game, unit set, map or scenario you own from the site. To remove your account and everything tied to your email, write to the address below; it is done by hand and confirmed by reply.
